MS403, MS202, or MS604 — Which Small Cabinet Lock Suits Your Application?

Not every cabinet door needs a heavy-duty industrial lock. Mailboxes, meter boxes, file cabinets, and small utility enclosures call for something compact and reliable rather than oversized. Yitailock produces three models in this smaller-scale category — here's a look at each and where it fits best.

MS403 — Small Round Latch Lock for Meter Boxes and Distribution Panels

The MS403 is a compact switch-style lock built for electrical meter boxes and distribution panels where a simple, low-profile latch is all that's needed. It comes in a wide range of construction options: all plastic, plastic combined with zinc alloy and iron, zinc alloy and iron together, and two cross-shaped cylinder versions — copper-plated iron and brass. Most variants are available with a master key option, with one brass cylinder version offered as non-master key only.

This range of material combinations makes the MS403 flexible across budget and durability requirements. The plastic version suits low-cost indoor meter boxes, while the zinc alloy and iron combinations hold up better where the panel sees more frequent access or slightly tougher conditions.

MS202 — Miniature Cylindrical Tumbler Lock

The MS202 is a small zinc alloy cylindrical lock built for mailboxes, milk crates, small utility boxes, and file cabinets — anywhere the door or lid is small and doesn't need a full-sized cylinder lock. Its compact tumbler mechanism keeps the footprint minimal while still providing genuine keyed security, which makes it a practical fit for lightweight enclosures where space is limited.

MS604 — 304 Stainless Steel Latch Lock for Filing and Storage Cabinets

The MS604 steps up in both material and application — built in 304 stainless steel for distribution cabinets, storage cabinets, metal cabinets, file cabinets, and drawer units. It's available in five lock body heights: 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm, and 35mm, which allows it to match different panel thicknesses and door configurations without needing a custom fit. Being stainless steel, the MS604 holds up better than the plastic-based MS403 in damp environments or anywhere durability matters more than upfront cost.

Choosing Between the Three

The MS403 fits best on meter boxes and distribution panels where a simple switch-style latch is sufficient and there's flexibility on material and budget. The MS202 is the right call for small mailboxes, crates, or file cabinet doors where space is tight and a compact cylinder lock gets the job done. The MS604 suits filing cabinets, storage units, and drawer cabinets where stainless steel durability and a choice of lock body height matter more than minimizing cost. Matching the lock to the cabinet's size and material — rather than defaulting to the same model across every application — keeps both function and budget in line.
