Cylinder locks are one of those product categories where the options look similar on the surface but differ quite a bit once you get into the details. Yitailock carries several cylinder lock models suited to different applications — and understanding what sets them apart makes the selection process a lot more straightforward. Here's a practical guide using three of our current models as examples.

Before looking at specific products, it helps to think about where the lock will be used and what it needs to do. A cylinder lock on a small indoor distribution box has different requirements from one on a heavy-duty switchgear enclosure or an outdoor industrial cabinet. Material, finish, key type, and mounting dimensions all follow from the application — so starting there keeps the selection process grounded.
For electrical cabinets and distribution boxes that don't face harsh conditions, a plastic cylinder lock is often all that's needed. The Jiye box lock is a good example — available in all-ABS plastic or a zinc alloy and ABS combination, it functions as a door lock, latch lock, and cylinder lock in one compact unit operated by a flat key.
It comes in three spec sizes (A, B, and a newer model), and the color options — black and beige — make it easy to match different cabinet finishes. For indoor panel boxes and distribution enclosures where cost and simplicity are the main considerations, this type of plastic cabinet door lock covers the requirement without overengineering it.
Step up to a heavier-duty indoor application — switchgear, drawers, mailboxes, or industrial cabinet doors — and a metal cylinder lock makes more sense. The MS705-3E is a stainless steel cylindrical lock available in three barrel heights: H18, H23, and H25, which allows it to accommodate different panel thicknesses without modification.
The zinc alloy versions come in black and bright chrome finishes. The stainless steel version is available in H18 only. Each height can also be paired with a locking plate — standard, 5mm, or 7mm high — depending on how the door frame is set up and how much engagement depth is needed. It's a flexible, well-specified lock that suits a wide range of standard industrial cabinet applications.
For distribution boxes, control cabinets, switchgear, and industrial machinery where finish and durability both matter, the MS748-3 is worth considering. It's available in black zinc alloy, polished chrome, and brushed stainless steel — which gives it a cleaner, more finished appearance than a basic cylinder lock while still being built for industrial use.
The panel cutout is 19.5 x 20.5mm, the overall depth is 23mm, and the cam rotates 90 degrees to engage. It comes with two keys and suits applications where the lock needs to look the part as well as function reliably over time.
If the cabinet is indoors, lightweight, and cost is a priority — a plastic cylinder lock like the Yitai box lock is a sensible starting point. For standard industrial enclosures that need a reliable metal lock with some flexibility on height and locking plate — the MS705-3E covers most situations. For applications where finish matters alongside function, or where the enclosure sees heavier daily use — the MS748-3 in brushed stainless or polished chrome is the stronger choice.
Getting the selection right mostly comes down to matching the lock to the environment and the enclosure type rather than defaulting to the most heavy-duty option across the board.
