How Do You Choose the Right Ventilation Filter for an Electrical Cabinet or Industrial Enclosure?

Heat is one of the more straightforward ways to shorten the lifespan of electrical components inside a cabinet. A ventilation filter set that fits properly, filters effectively, and suits the installation environment goes a long way toward keeping things running without issues. Yitailock produces a full range of cabinet ventilation windows in ABS plastic across multiple sizes and configurations — here's what to know before choosing one.

The XT Series — Filtered Ventilation for Electrical Enclosures

The XT series covers square ventilation filter sets from XT801 through XT807, each with a louvered ABS grille on the outside and a G3 polymer filter pad on the inside. The filter pad catches dust and debris before it reaches the components inside the enclosure, which is the key difference between this and a plain ventilation grille.

Sizes run from the compact XT801 (107×107mm external, 81×81mm cutout) up to the XT806 (322×322mm external, 280×280mm cutout) and the rectangular XT807 (420×180mm external, 389×149mm cutout). The most commonly specified sizes tend to be the mid-range XT803 to XT805, which suit the standard panel cutouts found on most distribution cabinets and control enclosures.

Colors are RAL 7035 (light grey — the standard for most industrial enclosures), RAL 7032 (a warmer pebble grey), and black for specific installations.

Normal Type vs. Tall Style

Two profile heights are available for the XT804 and XT805 models. The normal type sits closer to the panel surface and suits standard installations where the cabinet wall thickness is within the typical range. The tall style has a deeper body, which accommodates thicker panel walls or installations where additional clearance between the grille and the fan behind it is needed. Images two and three show the internal layout of each — the normal type uses M4 screw mounting at a single point, while the tall style uses two M4 fixing points for a more secure fit on deeper panels.

Adhesive Gasket Options

Most XT models are available with or without an adhesive dot gasket — the black sealing strip that runs around the perimeter of the filter frame. For enclosures that need a degree of dust sealing around the ventilation window itself, the gasket version is worth specifying. It presses against the panel surface when the grille is fitted, reducing the gap between the frame and the cutout edge. For standard indoor cabinets where ingress protection around the grille isn't a concern, the non-adhesive version is the simpler and more cost-effective choice.

Some XT804 and XT805 models are also available with a snap-fastener fixing instead of screws, which speeds up filter removal and replacement during maintenance.

Plain Ventilation Grilles

For applications where filtration isn't required — passive airflow only — plain ventilation grilles are available in three sizes: 78×200mm, 78×456mm, and 80×461mm. These have no filter pad inside, making them suited to enclosures where dust ingress isn't a concern but airflow still needs to be managed across the panel.

Choosing the Right One

Size is the first decision — match the external dimensions to the available panel space and confirm the cutout size before ordering. After that, the choice between filtered XT series and plain grille comes down to whether dust protection is needed. Within the XT series, the adhesive gasket is worth adding for any installation where the cabinet ventilation window needs to sit flush and seal against the panel. Normal vs. tall style follows from the panel thickness and fan clearance requirements.
